I am contemporary artist who currently lives in Brisbane, Australia.I recently moved from Cairns after living their for 6years. I have completed a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) in 2011 and am a qualified Visual Arts Teacher.
My journey to get to this point was a long one. I finished school and thought I wanted to be a Fashion Designer, so in 2004 I enrolled at Mt Gravatt TAFE in Brisbane. I completed a 1 year Certificate IV in Clothing Production. The unexpected move to Cairns in 2005 for my now husband's work hindered my Fashion career path (and for the best too). The TAFE in Cairns did not offer the Diploma course in Fashion Design at the time. Pondering over what I should do, I deiscovered and enrolled in a Diploma of Visual Arts. This was the best move I made. I discovered my passion. This was me!
After completing the Diploma of Visual Arts in 2007, and knowing my journey of wanting to be a high school art teacher, I went on to complete a Bachelor of Creative Industries at James Cook University in 2009.
Knowing I had one last hurdle to overcome to become a teacher, in 2011 I embarked on my last course of study (and thank goodness for that). I enrolled in a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) at Griffith University in Brisbane.
Unfortunately I have had 7years of study instead of the traditional 4years to complete a bachelors course. However have gained better skills, knowledge and experience from my extended years of study. So I am grateful for that.
I am passionate about volunteering to help sustain the arts and to gain experience. In 2006 I assisted a local high school in their art department. In 2007 I volunteered at the local arts organisation, Arts Nexus, where I helped with administrational duties and became the volunteers' coordinator. During 2009 I assisted with the children's art workshops at the local gallery. I helped manage a non-profit artist-run initiative, Cell Art Space, since Jan 2008 until June 2009.
My current style is of semi-realistic depiction of representional imagery. I do not aim for photorealism, I aim to capture the essence of the subject matter. Using acrylic paint, I love to paint bold vibrant paintings and sometimes incorporate modelling compound for texture and to enhance features.
I love working with various media for play and experimenting or just to get my creative juices flowing. Such other mediums I occassionally dabble in include; ink and gouache and chalk pastels. I also enjoy drawing mixed media and collage, and printmaking. I enjoy most arts and crafts including jewellery making, sewing and fashion design illustration.
My surrounding environments influence me greatly; the lush and virbrant colours, and scenery of reef, rainforest, outback and beach are all within reach. I find currently I am drawn to landscapes and wildlife, and I also enjoy still lifes.
The Impressionism art period is of emence inspiration, with particular admiration for Monet. I enjoy the works of Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, and Turner to name a few.
